the thousand faces of dunjia
Feature Film
MOFAC was the main vendor of this big-budget fantasy film and oversaw entire production that took 2 years to release. I had my first overseas experience as a 2nd on-set supervisor and particiated in the entire process from pre-production to final delivery.
During the 5 months-length period of on-set production, I collected numerous texture sources, lighting references and reference shots for digital character double, installed green screens and markers for compositing, wrote VFX scripts, measured and recorded a lot of information that can might be useful on post production.
My biggest achievement was introducing photogrammetry asset building method. I shoot series of photos and converted them into 3d assets (props and background sets) directly on set so that many assets could be built in advance in a short time and used for asset development and post-vis in paralell with on-set production.
After the end of the on-set production, the main supervisor left the company so I became the only crew that knew about the entire history of the production, making my role on this project more important. I made a full cg-list and asset-list, made detailed directing guides thorugh annotations for each CG tasks, and traveled to Beijing’s director’s office several times to get design confirmation for VFX sequences. As an intermediate role between the director and the artists, I tried hard to be sure that the director's vision was well embodied in the work.
